Thompson Island Information Center
The Thompson Island Information Center is on the small island between the mainland and Mount Desert Island. It is in the municipality of Trenton, Maine. An Acadia National Park Ranger is usually on staff here during normal operating hours to answer any questions. Park passes may be purchased here as well. Due to funding cutbacks, this location is also used by the local chambers of commerce to give out information about their municipalities. There is a much larger facility further ahead with more items for purchase at the main Visitor Center at Hulls Cove. There are public restrooms available at both locations.

Thompson Island Picnic Area
On the other side of the road from this Thompson Island location is a nice little day picnic area, right on the coast, with a good size grassy field for playing games. It is open from 6:00 AM until dark. (Hours may be changed by National Park Service without notice so before planning special functions, please verify with Park Headquarters.) For information during the winter months, visit the Park Headquarters on Highway 233 near Eagle Lake, just 3 miles west of Bar Harbor.

Convenient Location
Most park visitors are not aware that there is a small island between the mainland and Mount Desert Island that they pass over on their way to Bar Harbor. The Thompson Island Information Center is a convenient place to stop to get some maps and ask some questions, but it is an especially convenient location for a bathroom stop. On the right side (west side) is the information center whereas the park picnic area is just before this on the left side (eastern side) hidden behind some trees. This location also has bathroom facilities.
