Upper Hadlock Pond
Acadia National Park, Maine

This panoramic photograph shows Upper Hadlock Pond in Acadia National Park as the sun just breaks over the nearby mountains at sunrise and caresses the tops of the trees. The peak to the left is 974 foot high (297 m) Bald Peak. Sargent Mountain, at 1,373 feet (419 m) is near center in the distance. To the right is the lower section of 1,194 foot (360 m) high Penobscot Mountain. A hiking trail follows along the right side of the pond, eventually leading to Bald Peak. Upper Hadlock Pond is located on the east side of Route 3 just north of Northeast Harbor.

Mount Desert Island has 17 mountains, sheared off and rounded by past glacier activity. The highest and best known is Cadillac Mountain. At 1,532 feet, it is the highest point along the North Atlantic seaboard.(see panoramic).
